John Sowers is running to be the Democratic nominee for the 25th Ohio House District.

John is a life-long resident of the 25th District. After raising a family, making a career, and serving the community through local organizations, John is honored to be running for this office.

John was introduced to politics, volunteering and strong Democratic values early in life by his parents. Growing up on the Hilltop, John attended West High School and graduated from Briggs High School. John was blessed with a loving and supportive family, making it possible for him to be the first in his family to graduate from college. As an example of John's perseverance, he paid his college tuition by working full time while attending school at night. He earned a bachelor degree in Finance.

The skills John developed throughout his career of 26 years in the private sector of finance and financial processing will add a new solution-oriented way of thinking to the state legislature in these tough budget times. During his career John earned the respect of his colleagues and clients with a reputation of delivering projects on time and on budget.

In 2004, John became one of the founding members of German Village for Kerry, organizing 200 volunteers to work towards electing not only a Democratic President, but the election of all Democratic local candidates on the ballot. John has remained a leader of the group to this day, now called Midtown South for Progress.

Expanding his involvement, in 2006, John became the Franklin County Democratic Party Central Committeeman representing Ward 2.

John understands the needs and concerns of the people in this very diverse district, having lived on both the west side and a downtown neighborhood.

John is looking forward to the opportunity to transition from the private sector to the public sector where his efforts will directly benefit Central Ohio. If elected, John will resign his position with First Data International to serve the constituents of the 25th district as a full-time Representative.

The district covers much of Columbus' West Side, including the Hilltop, Franklinton, and Westgate, south to Obetz, as well as the downtown neighborhoods of German Village and Victorian Village.

John lives in Schumacher Place with his partner of 11 years.
